Bethesda Means Sharing Christ
COME IN and be WELCOMED by real people, FOCUSED
on SPIRITUAL GROWTH, and CHALLENGED by Biblical messages that can CHANGE YOUR LIFE
The Missions and Participation Ministry teams of Bethesda Covenant Church are working together to provide members an opportunity to embrace a new community mission project. Our focused ministry is to adopt two local schools into our church family. Nelson & Walker Elementary Schools are a part of our community outreach ministry and provides our church the opportunity to “Support Our Students: Save Our Schools.” These two elementary schools have major needs in which our church can provide our services. Some of those needs are: used children’s books, random school supplies, tutoring and reading volunteers, male mentors, extra helpers for special events, and teacher luncheon or treat days. These are just a few needs that we, the family of Bethesda, can meet at these schools.
Our first service opportunity is to collect used children’s books and random school supplies. These two collections will be ongoing collections that we will do year round. There will be a setup in the hospitality room with a bookcase to collect the books, and a basket by the bookcase to collect the school supplies in. So, search your house for children’s books that you can donate, and when you are out shopping for your daily needs, pick up any of the following school supplies:
•Pencils #2 (soft)
•EXPO Dry Erase Markers (black, chisel tip)
•Elmer’s White Glue (8 oz. bottle)
•Spiral Notebooks (70 page/wide rule)
•Two-pocket folders/without fasteners (poly)
•Crayola Crayons (24 count)
•Zaner-Bloser De’Nealian Handwriting Tablets
Grades 2 & 3
•Anti-bacterial wipes
•Kleenex
We will be providing other opportunities for our church family to be involved with these two schools. Be watching for a Sponsored Reading Day where we will transport volunteers to go to each of these schools where we will have an opportunity to read with the students and get to know them and the schools they attend.
These are great opportunities for each of us to give a small portion back to our community, to a population of students and teachers who need to have OUR loving support and companionship to Support Our Students: Save Our Schools.
There will be future opportunities for us to work in the schools providing tutoring, reading, and assistance in special events. Each individual who participates needs to fill out a volunteer form that the school will have checked out. These forms will be available in the hospitality room on March 13th.
