history of Bethesda

 
When it all began… Bethesda began in January of 1926 by 72 dedicated people. We were the first Covenant Church in the country to organize and conduct services entirely in English. We started in Highland School and hired our first Pastor in February. In July of 1927 we purchased two properties on Washington Street and started laying the cornerstone for our current building. In March of 1928 we moved into our new church home. In 1948 we added an educational building to better teach our youth. For we dared not hesitate to give our children the very best Christian Education. The church must not fail in this vital mission. Whatever we invest today for their moral and spiritual development will pay wonderful dividends tomorrow. “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon they heart; and thou shall teach them to thy children.” Then in 1997 We began the Lao Covenant Church. They started in a house on the church property and now are meeting in their own section of the church. The story behind the name…Bethesda In 1948 we added an educational building to better teach our youth. For we dared not hesitate to give our children the very best Christian Education. In Hebrew Bethesda means “House of Mercy.” 
We are a place of healing, a place of making people whole. Our world is filled with hurt people, 
people who have no one, dis-inherited people, forgotten people, lonely people, sick people, they have no one. 
But Bethesda is here, it is a place where people may come to be made whole.
